Gerald and Iris Gessner are the Directors of Agape Amazonas Foundation, known as Fundacao Agape Amazonas in Portuguese. They moved to Brazil in 1997, with the intent of starting a program for helping children. In 1997, Hans and I flew to Manaus, Brazil on a pre-mission trip with the intent of building a church in 1998. We met Iris and Gerald our first day there in Manaus and found out that Hans and Gerald went to the same church in Germany 20 years prior to this time. Gerald was telling us that he and his wife just moved there and were going to be starting this project when he noticed her walking down the driveway. I looked up and it was Iris. I had met her on my first two week mission trip to Brazil back in 1993. God worked out all the details (and it is quite a story :) so that we ended up building their first Kindergarten for their project instead of a church. We have had the privilege of working with Gerald and Iris ever since. Check out our pictures under the tab Previous Mission Trips.
